mat1International Missions

Supporting international missions is another high priority for Eastgate Church, reaching out to those in need across the globe and fulfilling the Great Commission. Please find below details of two missions we support.

MAHALIR ARAN TRUST

In 1990 the Lord gave a young woman a vision to build a women's refuge and home for abandoned children.

Mercy Abraham's vision was realized in 1992 and MAHALIR ARAN TRUST was founded. The name, meaning Women's Fortress in Tamil, was given by the Lord from Psalm 18:2. THE LORD IS MY FORTRESS AND MY DELIVERER.

Mercy and her husband Vincenzo Imondi now oversee the work at Mahalir Aran Trust together. They have an 8 year old daughter named Persis.

Where are we?
Situated on 35 acres in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, South India. We have been blessed with a picturesque, tranquil setting which is truly a place of refuge.

Who lives here?
30 women and about 70 children. All have a tragic story to tell. The women are shunned by their family and a society who consider women to be second class and disposable. They are destitute with no means of earning an income. Some are widows who have been thrown out by their families because they cannot support them any longer. Others are sick, and cannot work to pay for medical treatment. The children are orphans and many have never been to school. One girl was sold into prostitution at 9 years of age, and came to us a few years ago in very poor health.
